Sorry for not posting but I've been quite busy. Everything is signed, sealed, and delivered. I've moved!
Not out of Qatar, but to another apartment. Something closer to work that makes the commute easier. I should get about an hour of my life back every working day, which will be nice.
Unfortunately rents in the neighborhood were still high and had not been impacted much by a financial crisis or property downturn. I figure if I had waited another two or three months I could've wrangled a better deal but alas I could not wait. So I have myself a one-bedroom apartment for...
... Wait for it...
... Are you sitting down? ...
About $US 3,300 a month, not including utilities. (Hey, I've told you before that rents were unbelievable here.)
Can't be helped I'm afraid, that is just the price you pay for being here. Once I've unpacked and settled I will be able to post more frequently again.
In 2006 I moved to Qatar and things are not what many people in North America would expect - it is not like how the Middle East is portrayed in the media. I'm also a fan of skepticism and science so wondered how this works here in Qatar. Since I'm here for a while I figured I'd use the time to get to know this country better and with this blog you can learn along with me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - So what posts have been popular recently . . .

That's about normal for a nice place in Qatar. That's what we were paying at the Falcon at the Four Seasons. Mind you we had a view of the ocean.
I know but still, more that $3000/month for a 1-bedroom apartment. What can you do.
12k for a 1-bedroom is fairly high nowadays, even fully furnished. Currently we are looking ourselves and were offered a 3-bedroom apartment for 10k.
Anyway, compared to Germany this is still very high, but what can you do if the market is run by a relative monopoly of Qataris only? (Not to mention the empty compounds all around...)
Three bedroom apartment for 10K is about right in most of the city, but in West Bay?? I know a person looking in West Bay right now and one building wants 12k for a one-bedroom. What building was this three-bedroom for 10K in?
The apartment is in Al Sadd area, nearby Hamad hospital. I was told it is brand new, and yes, there are new buildings there.
West Bay of course is a high price area, but even in Zig Zag towers you can get a 2 bedroom for less than 12k at the moment.
Nice one
